This course provides the addictions professional the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to complete and initial interview. Counseling skills critical to effectively conducting an initial interview are discussed. These skills must be mastered as the addictions professional progresses through the counseling process from individual and group settings through to termination of the counseling relationship. Theory as a basis for the success of the initial interview and beyond is explored.
This course does not subscribe to the use of any one theoretical perspective. Instead, it engages the professional in the initialization of self discovery, client discovery, and ultimately the knowledge acquisition necessary for a professional career in addictions counseling.
