Course Description: The diagnostic summary is the compilation and subsequent professional interpretation of all assessment tools, methods and procedures employed, both formal and informal, to determine a client's needs: The diagnostic summary will lay the groundwork for the treatment plan. The foundation of an effective treatment plan is the data gathered through biopsychosocial assessment, collateral interviews and clinical and peer supervision. This course presents specific steps and examples for writing the diagnostic summary and developing an effective treatment plan based on assessment data. Counselor competencies will be discussed in detail with a specific interest in the importance of the therapeutic alliance from screening to discharge.
