Pharmacology and Physiology
This course introduces the participant to the basic principles of pharmacology, anatomy, and physiology. These principles are applied to an examination of the major classes of psychoactive drugs, including those commonly subject to abuse. The course will also provide a detailed review of the history and development of drugs of abuse. Physiological effects on body systems, including the brain and the central nervous system will be discussed in detail. Important terms for the professional will be reviewed as well as drug classifications and drug scheduling as defined by the US Drug Enforcement Association. This course will also examine current trends in substance abuse in the United States.
