Course Description: This course is designed to provide an overview of the nature and psychology of disabilities. It will examine the prevalence of substance use disorders (SUDs) within various disability populations. It will examine the American Disabilities Act and its application as well as the requirements related to addiction and mental health treatment programs and services. It will provide an overview of federal, state, and county disability services and ways to develop interagency agreements to serve clients with disabilities and addictions better. Most important, it will focus on the responsibility of treatment professionals to accommodate the needs of people with disabilities.
