Course Description: This course will provide the student with a comprehensive review of the processes and the stages of addiction recovery. The course will present a detailed review of the Models of Addiction from a historical perspective. Recovery, relapse and relapse prevention will be discussed as well as a review of adjunct services that the counselor should be familiar with when educating clients in supportive services. The Disease Model of addiction will be reviewed as the prevailing model with a review of the influential works of E.M. Jellineck & Prochaska & DiClemente. This course will also introduce the impact of addiction on the family, spirituality, the body and ultimately the individuals "holistic" experience as defined by the Model of Wellness
