Sociocultural Client Education
Course Description: At the end of this course, the student will gain an understanding of what culture is as well as Cultural Competence and learn how to assess individuals of different cultural backgrounds and their needs. The student will also develop an understanding of the various characteristics of major cultural groups represented in client populations, including but not limited to: adolescence, gangs, women, seniors and their addictions, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender, individuals with disabilities and their addictions, as well as specific cultural groups including Hispanic/Latino Americans, African Americans, American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN), and Asian Americans and Pacific islanders (AA/PI).
