Addiction Recovery & Family Psychological Education

Course Description: This course will focus on recovery from addiction within the family context, specifically focusing on the adolescent as (1) the substance abuser and as (2) the co-dependent. Perspectives from the viewpoint of the recovering parent, adolescent, and significant other will be presented. The dynamics of the family system will offer a background for understanding the effect of one member's recovering on the family members' "recovering" and their interpersonal relationships. Definition of co-dependency and respective terms, introduction to traditional and current forms of treatment that are relative to individual family member's personal recovery, and inclusion of all family members will be identified and discussed
