Biochemical and Sociocultural Family Education


Course Description: Students will be able to describe the value of being culturally competent. Students will be able to explain the nature and importance of a cultural perspective on health problems including substance abuse and mental illness. The course will provide an overview of cultural traditions of various subgroups. The course will also describe how the process of chemical dependency as it affects families and how families view this process from their own cultural perspective. It will also look at family issues in recovery. Students will describe basic pharmacology and the addiction process to family members in a way that it can be understood.

Course Length: 2-3 hours

Audience: Addiction Professionals, Social Workers, Counselors, and Allied Health Professionals
